4 min Fat Burning Cardio Workout w/ Exercise Bike

What if I told you that you could get all the fat burning gains of an hour long cardio session in just 4 minutes? What’s the downside? You have to exercise harder and more intensely than you ever have before. Still with me? Then I’d like to introduce you to the Tabata protocol.

The Tabata protocol is named after Izumi Tabata, a former researcher at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Japan. Tabata evaluated a high intensity interval training procedure invented by the coach of the Japanese speed skating team. The procedure involves maximal effort sprinting for 20 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest. This is repeated for 6-8 sets for a total of 4 minutes.

4 Minutes of Pain

Now this may sound easy on paper, but once you sprint all out for 20 seconds and have closely no time to rest, you get winded very easily. It’s not not common to feel nauseous after completing this routine. Needless to say, this procedure was employed with world class athletes. Speed skaters are numerous of the world’s finest athletes, and a great deal of on the Japanese speed skating team had to stop after 6 intervals for the introductory few times. I may carry out 4-6 intervals at greatest or most complete or best possible velocity but see a slowdown for the last 2-4 intervals. Those last 2-4 intervals still represent my maximal effort; it’s just that I’m too tired to give the same maximal effort as the original 2-4 intervals.

Fat Burning Effects

Most people think they need to stay on the treadmill or elliptical for at least 20 minutes before any fat burning begins. What makes this 4 minute procedure so effective then? The short high intensity intervals result in a substantial “after burn effect” in which your body proceeds burning calories for hours after you finish the workout. This happens because you burn off all your glycogen (carbs) for the duration of the workout leaving only fat for your body to burn. Additionally, the Tabata protocol has been shown to increase aerobic and anaerobic capacity while moderate intensity cardio only increments aerobic capacity.

Workout Flexibility

One outstanding feature of the Tabata protocol is that it may be employed on any number of exercises. I tend to only carry out these high intensity intervals using cardio exercises, but you could effortlessly use weights or body weight exercises. Do as a good deal of reps as you may in 20 seconds. Take a brief 10 second rest and commence again. Go light if you’re using weights because this requires a grueling effort.

Getting the Most Fat Burning Out of Tabata Protocol

While the actual Tabata protocol only takes 4 minutes, you ought to integrate a warm up and cool down period. I get started off by warming up for 4-5 minutes. I do a 1-2 minute cool down and without delay catch my breath and drink a great deal of water. That’s in regards to 10 minutes total. Since I commonly allocate a little longer than 10 minutes for a workout, I like to add some steady state cardio afterward. Tabata reduces glycogen levels and releases fatty acids. Steady state cardio may burn those fatty acids and take vantage of your body’s low glycogen levels to genuinely burn off fat.

5Calling all intermediate/advanced Leslie Sansone fans!!
By Streudel423
I have been a Leslie Sansone fan for some years and own lots of her videos; the 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk, by far, my favorite! I would unquestionably say that this video (if you do the entire thing) is geared to intermediate/advanced exercisers. If you are a beginner, consider just doing a mile or two and working up towards the whole workout.

5EVERYONE NEEDS TO TRY THIS!!!
By Addicted to Excersize
I now have 11 of Leslie Sansone’s videos and I love each one of them. She ofttimes states that her workouts are not for sissies and that is very unfeigned but REALLY any person may do them. You just set your own pace.I started working out with Leslie’s videos on April 1st, 2008. I weighed 240 lbs. It is now February 24th, 2009 and I am happy…no thrilled to tell you that I have walked away 83 lbs!!! I went from 2X to size 12. My goal is to lose 100 lbs and I recognise I will get there. When I started out I could scarcely get to the end of the 3 mile video. I’m up to 5 miles now and I love it! I’m hooked! What a great thing to be addicted to…excerize!!! Now here’s the best part….I’m 62..I’ll be 63 in just a few days and the young girls who work out with me can’t keep up!!! Please do yourself a big favor and get started walking away the pounds today. Or just do it to be healthier. Either way, you come out a winner!!!

5She does it again…
By Carmen J. Nazario
If you have been walking with Leslie for a while you recognise that each new workout she comes out with is just as outstanding as the one before. If you have done Leslie before and have been slacking and need something fresh to remotivate you (that is me)this one is a outstanding motivator. If you are new to Leslie what are you waiting for?
I got this one in the mail yesterday and did 2 of the five miles last night. This morning I got up and did 3 of the 5 miles. This is a outstanding one! Here is the breakdown. There are 5- 1 mile walks, each walk is 12 minutes. The primary mile is just Leslie. Miles 2,3, and 4 have respective walkers with her. The final mile is Leslie alone again. Each mile is 12 minutes and she does her boosted walking at the end, before the cool down. I personally LOVE the boosted walking! In the intro She proposes doing 1 mile before each meal. I just may have to try that! There is also a wondrous consultation with one of her walkers at the end. It personally inspired me because she talks when it comes to her dad getting sick and that being her wake up call. I was not long back diagnosed with type II diabetes. My father is a very uncontrolled (stubborn)diabetic who has lost one leg already and had a stroke. I am on a mission to NOT be my dad and hearing Nicole’s story was just the inspiration I necessitated to remind myself that I may be the healthiest diabetic I may perchance be. I plan to revisit her story whenever I need numerous insiration to just walk, walk, walk.

4 minutes of ANY kind of cardio is not enough. You need to get your heart into the target zone for at least 20 minutes. A more intense cardio workout does not equal having to take less time. 20 minutes in the target zone. No less.

what are you saying is the best way to build muscle?? A exercise bike?? I don’t understand what you are pointing out is wrong.
All i said is for the amount of time spent running does alot more than biking but its alot higher impact. This isn’t an opinion but a fact. I have no clue what you are talking about.

This is the best way to build muscles and what does muscles do ? Burn fat! Its not just the workout you need to eat less energi then you put in i recommend 1000 cal drop at least if you gonna see results. I had 5 % bodyfat when i was 18 . Now at 28 i now have 20 % but 6 weeks ago i had 28 % so the food is important , but use protein powders is best way and dont drink ( Aspartam )

Tabata means 170% of VO2 Max……Do you think she was anywhere near 170%?!!! Most people struggle to reach 170% uphill on a treadmill. Using a bike means introducing a load of local muscular endurance problems right from the get go.

its great that you are exercising. A treadmill is better cardio because it is more difficult work and more of your body is involved.
The downside to a treadmill is obviously running or walking is harder on your joints that biking.
The biggest downside to biking is time. To get the equivalent workout it takes alot longer on a bike than a treadmill.
10 min on a bike -100 calories. 10 min of runnin a treadmill =600. its good to run 1 day bike the next to give yourself a break

“The conclusion was that just four minutes of Tabata interval training could do more to boost aerobic and anaerobic capacity than an hour of endurance exercise.”

“Dr. Izumi Tabata’s groundbreaking 1996 study, published in the journal Medicine and Science in Sports & Exercise, provided documented evidence concerning the dramatic physiological benefits of high-intensity intermittent training. After just 6 weeks of testing, Dr. Tabata noted a 28% increase in anaerobic capacity in his subjects, along with a 14% increase in their ability to consume oxygen (V02Max).”

I do this thre times a week on an upright bike, no arms, and I actually stand up for 1 minute and peddle to break up the routine, it kicks my a**! I have noticed a big change in my endurance level all around. I also engage my abs during the rest period . This channel is awesome, nice to see real people!

I tried HIIT the other day; I ran 6mph and sprinted 9mph (1min slow, 30 sec fast); I think I did it four or five times. I swear, I was FAMISHED all day long. I felt like I just couldn’t eat enough and was hungry at 10pm – which never happens for me. I don’t know about the whole 4min thing, but that workout sped something up, that’s for sure. I think there is a definite tangible benefit to the idea of HIIT. If 4min is what you have, then go for it! Where’s the harm in trying something new?

This video is utter garbage. 4 minutes will do nothing – even if you do. During the 4 minutes you may burn 20 calories and make NO CHANGE TO YOUR METABOLISM.
If it was possible to burn fat in only 4 minutes a day EVERYONE WOULD DO IT!
There is abossolutely no way that either of those 2 in the video look like they do with just a 4 minute regime! I don’t know why they insult peoples’ intelligence with this dogwash!

Great video. But i’m wondering what the tension/level needs to be on the bike. When I do long haul pedalling on the stationay bike I tend to have more tension and when I sprint I tend to have less. What should the tension be like for Tabata? Thanks.
